At lunchtime today, I ate out with my friend, Mbak Renny, in our favorite canteen, Kantin Sehat. It is a simple restaurant which serves inexpensive healthy food which is really nice for someone who can’t cook everyday, like myself :D

Well, today we both had a great surprise. The canteen sells a recycled plastic bag which is made from cassava (or singkong in Indonesian word) and it can dissolve in the soil in only six months! Just compare to the real plastic bag, which needs million of years to dissolve. This will be just our Earth needs, don’t you think?

I just wish all malls, stores, shops, and all the sellers can use this recycled plastic bag for the sake of the Earth. I wish the government can do something about it.

I read this great novel, The Road (Cormac McCarthy), and it makes me realize more that global warming could really be the end of this Earth if we don’t really do something serious about it.

The Road tells a story of how the Earth is like if human beings can’t stop the global warming. The air pollution blocks the sunlight from warming the Earth. No sunlight, the trees are decaying and can’t grow again. No trees mean not enough oxygen which all living creatures need. Animals are all extinct. The Earth is getting so cold, especially in winters. Can human beings survive with no food left? They eat one another until there’s nothing and no one left to be eaten.

It’s a story of a long journey a father and his son have to take, to find a place where the sun still loves. Is there such a place? They could be two of the last people in the dying Earth. Most of the time they walk the road in a freezing darkness and unbearable hunger, wearing a mask to filter the rotten air, avoiding other humans they rarely see, so terrified that other would eat them.

That can be happening in no time. If we care enough, we can stop it. Really. I always believe that we can help even from the smallest things.

I was reading this novel during a weekend away on small islands near Jakarta with some friends. The islands, the sea, the fish, and the coral reef are so beautiful. Yet, during that lovely time basking in the sun, playing in the water, eating fish, and just having fun, I couldn’t help feeling so sad. Garbage scattered everywhere, mostly around the island with many population. There is one island we went to which is so dirty and heavilly populated. The inhabitants throw the garbage near the beach, sometimes right to the sea, plus the bad smell this creates. How can they not care?

Have you done something good for our Earth?

Some people love a short cut.

In a ticket booth in a railway station near my house, the passengers don’t know the word ‘to queue’. Even when you’re really in front of the booth, ready to buy the ticket, suddenly a few hands with some money appear from all over your sides, pushing you aside (imagine an horror movie ;P), wanting to be served first, a short cut.

Or be careful when walking on a trotoar (a place for pedestrian). You just can’t walk freely because some motorcyles might hit you. They want a short cut by riding on the trotoar.

Want a better mark so you can pass the exams? Just cheat. Want a degree? Buy it. Want to get more profit? Sell fake stuffs and convince everyone they are of good quality. Want to be more beautiful? Get a plastic surgery. Want to get a job? Pay some money to the company (I still can’t believe it’s really happening!) Want to get rich fast? Be corrupted.

Want to have a short cut to heaven? Mmm… I’m yet to ask someone about it. :D

Who never heard of this? Especially when we feel low, there must be someone who says this to us, "Be positive."

I believe that it’s true. It sounds so easy but of course it’s not that easy to do. How can we be positive when, for example, someone steals our wallet on a bus? Our first reaction would be cursing the pickpocket (with terms we pick from the zoo?), or worse, pitying ourselves for not being too careful. Or worst, take a revenge and steal a wallet from someone else’s bag. Lol.

Well, life is like that. The ups and downs which everyone on Earth experiences. So that’s why we need to be positive, to prepare when the ‘downs’ moments are coming our ways. So instead of cursing the pickpocket, pitying ourselves, or take a revenge (God forbids!), if it happens to me, I will try to let go (because I can’t kick the pickpocket’s a** and take back my wallet, haha.) and try to convince myself that the pickpocket needs more money than I, that at least I have some money to help him a little, hopefully, and that way I feel blessed more.

Sounds too unbelievable? Maybe so. But just try it, little by little. Count your blessings… and you will feel the positive energy surrounding you… and when you really open your eyes, you will feel how so blessed you are. Try it.

Of course, staying in positive mind and attitude can be very very difficult to do when so many ’unfortunate’ things happen to us. I would like to add, "Be positive and always look down." I hope that will make you feel better.

Just think about it.

I am trying to be positive.

My friend introduced me to this site and I just love it. I love reading and it’s just fun to share which books we read and what we think about those books.

A few weeks a go, a friend recommended a book which she claimed that it took her breath away. She lent me the book, which of course I couldn’t wait to read. Well, the book turned out to be a bit disappointment to me. I guess we have different taste.

Everyone’s taste of a book is varied, of course. Not everybody like Harry Potter, for example. That’s when sites like Goodreads come to the rescue. Lol. Which would you trust more, a book review from a stranger or a friend?

Happy reading!

Is it just me?

I went to a mall the other day, hoping to find a piece of clothes, and after hours looking tiringly, I went home empty-handedly. Every stores I looked, all the clothes were the same. Today’s trend is ‘pregnant-woman-look’ dress. Everybody seems to wear the same clothes now.

It didn’t happen to me once. I feel like it happens to me everytime I go to a mall. Gosh, you should notice what a fashion do to us, women and girls. It’s changing and they seem to be able to follow it easily and fast! So I think it’s easy for you if you want to keep updated with the current fashion. Just go to a mall and look around. Aaarrggghhh!

For me, I will just stick to my favorite clothes. T-shirt and jeans.
