The Jakarta’s sky has been so blue for the last couple of days. I can even see the mountains from my office window. What a rare view. It should really be such a bless for the third most polluted city in the world!
Cars and motorcycles are nothing but increasing every year. Old vehicles are still allowed to take a ride around the city. Compared to Singapore which doesn’t allow vehicles older than 10 years to operate in the country, here people are sooo proud to have antique cars and parading them across the city.
Pollution seems to be our best friend here. Many people still think I am a creature from the nearest planet when they see me covering my nose and mouth with a handkerchief or tissue while I am walking on the street or inside a public transportation. "You’ve got a sore lip, Miss?" or "Is it really so smelly in here?" are their stupid comments. See how ignorant they are?
Or many shocking moments I experience, one is when I saw a nice looking lady eat some fried snacks (we call it ‘gorengan’, our famous snack) at the bus stop innocently while the bus sprayed some thick black smoke from its exhaust pipe right into the gorengan. On her side, a young mother was sitting while carrying a little baby in her arms. The sleeping baby stirred a little and yawning. Ooops, I could see the baby inhaled the deadly smoke. Phew!
God, give me strength!
