My mind was on something sad when I prayed at the church last Sunday that I had to choke back the tears from falling… that’s when I noticed a very thin woman coming inside… on a wheelchair! Her arms were like sticks but strongly she span the wheels and her face lit up.

Always look down and be blessed.

Suddenly I felt like I heard His voice inside. I wiped my eyes and thanked Him I was in His house that day.

I wish things would be so calm and serene as on top of the trees.

When I was a kid, I loved climbing trees in spite of my mother’s disapproval. I had done it earlier when I was living with my grandparents for a couple of years. My grandparents lived in a house with a big garden in a village. They even had a river surrounding the house. I grew up playing in nature and loving it.

There was a guava tree on the side of the house, next to my room’s window. The branches were growing until some of them reached up to the middle of the river. On the other side of the river was the house of my grandparents’ neighbour who had a 7 year old granddaughter, about my age. We became friends. I would climb on the tree, sit on its branch above the river and she would climb on her tree on the other side cheerily. Each time we would climb higher and higher. We would talk and talk, feel the branch swaying us, so lovely.

It was so peaceful at the top. I could even see the birds there sometimes. The noises were fading away, people were so far away, and I was away in my own world.

I wish I could go back to that world of mine now.

…have been killed in the past 20 years in India right after they’re born or when they’re still in their mothers’ wombs… by their own parents!

I know some women who are desperately wanting to have children of their own but God still hasn’t granted their wish. On the other hand, God is so generous to some women that He presents them with so many children. Yet, some of these women don’t feel blessed with the gift.

Aren’t we so complicated or what?

Ten million baby girls… may you all rest in peace.

The Jakarta’s sky has been so blue for the last couple of days. I can even see the mountains from my office window. What a rare view. It should really be such a bless for the third most polluted city in the world!

Cars and motorcycles are nothing but increasing every year. Old vehicles are still allowed to take a ride around the city. Compared to Singapore which doesn’t allow vehicles older than 10 years to operate in the country, here people are sooo proud to have antique cars and parading them across the city.

Pollution seems to be our best friend here. Many people still think I am a creature from the nearest planet when they see me covering my nose and mouth with a handkerchief or tissue while I am walking on the street or inside a public transportation. "You’ve got a sore lip, Miss?" or "Is it really so smelly in here?" are their stupid comments. See how ignorant they are?

Or many shocking moments I experience, one is when I saw a nice looking lady eat some fried snacks (we call it ‘gorengan’, our famous snack) at the bus stop innocently while the bus sprayed some thick black smoke from its exhaust pipe right into the gorengan. On her side, a young mother was sitting while carrying a little baby in her arms. The sleeping baby stirred a little and yawning. Ooops, I could see the baby inhaled the deadly smoke. Phew!

God, give me strength!

It is taken from a superb and genius novel, God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, and it goes like this, The Law of Love: Who you should love and how much…

I’ve read the book thrice… yet those words are still able to leave a pang in my heart. It is a story of a forbidden love, of a twin separated by fate, of how they are trying to find love their whole life, of how the people around them are actually doing the same, in their own way.

Who should you love? How much should you love? Is there such a thing in life?

The new year welcomed my country with sadness. Lots of accidents and natural disasters kept knocking on our door. Who’s to blame?

Once upon a time, Indonesia was a rich country with lots of natural resources and fertile soil.

Once upon a time, Indonesia was known as a country with friendly citizens, so devout and religious.

Once upon a time, we felt so blessed just by having a simple living.

Now we want so much of everything. Too much of everything but still not enough. We cheat, we steal, we rob.

I wonder if now the nature wants everything back.
